Brahian Mendez
American Forward Ralph Bellamy (193-F) had an amazing evening in the last round for Del Patio, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 1.
The player was the main contributor (18 points, seven rebounds and two assists) to his team's victory, helping them to edge out Santiago Basket (#4, 0-2), the league's bottom-ranked team 88-85. Thanks to this victory Del Patio moved-up to the 4th position in Dominican Rep. LDC. Del Patio is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 1-1 record. Bellamy just recently signed at Del Patio and just after two games he already turned to be a very valuable addition to the team. Former Harris-Stowe State University star has very solid stats this year. Bellamy is in league's top in rebounds (7th best: 7.5rpg).
The second best player in last round's games was another Del Patio's star - Brahian Mendez (SF). Mendez had a very good evening with 32 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Bad luck as Del Patio lost that game 91-97 to Santiago Max (1-1). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Mendez is one of the most experienced players at Del Patio and similarly like Ralph Bellamy has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.
Third on the list of top players last round was forward Franklyn Jaquez (197-F-1997) of Santiago Max (#3). Jaquez scored 26 points and grabbed ten rebounds. Despite Jaquez's great performance Santiago Max lost 84-90 to #1 ranked Fenix. But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing Santiago Max needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams in East. Their record is 1 victory and 1 lost game. Jaquez has a great season in Dominican Republic. After only 2 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 11.0rpg (4th best).
Other top performing players last week:
4. Jefry Arias (182-G-1997) of Fenix - 24 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists
5. Yodael Almonte (F) of Del Patio - 21 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Carlos Martinez (194-F) of Santiago Max - 24 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Albertson Pimentel (185-SG) of Fenix - 22 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Daniel Shedden (193-F-1996) of Santiago Basket - 17 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
9. Derekjeter Mejia (182-G-2001) of Santiago Basket - 24 points and 4 rebounds
10. Yensi Jimenez (189-G-1998) of Fenix - 15 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists
The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
